UNIMARC Applications in International Projects

A workshop on UNIMARC Applications in international projects took place during the annual German Librarians Conference (Bibliothekartag) at the Deutsche Bibliothek in Frankfurt, organized by the IFLA UBCIM Programme. The moderator was the Director of the UBCIM Programme, Kurt Nowak.

After a short presentation by Marie-France Plassard, from IFLA UBCIM, on the latest UNIMARC developments (including UNIMARC on the Web), Jürgen Braun from Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek, Göttingen, talked about UNIMARC Applications in European Projects:

Claudia Fabian, from the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich, described the use of UNIMARC for multinational databanks (the Hand Press Book Database of CERL).

Lastly, Trudi Noordermeer from the Koninklijke Bibliothek in the Hague presented
Use Marcon
ftp://ftp.konbib.nl/pub/usemarcon, the User-controlled Generic MARC Convertor, enabling conversion of records between the various national MARC formats. Papers were presented in German and are available from the UBCIM Programme as well as English translations which are published in ICBC 27(4).
