Job Purpose
The Communication Officer / Web Content Editor will be working in
the broader domain of internal and external communication, with a
particular focus on maintaining and extending the content of the IFLA
website, using a CMS. The main task will be realizing online
communication products and activities in good cooperation with external
information providers and IFLA HQ staff and fine tuned with the general
communication strategy of the organization.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Support - as a super user - the IFLA’s Information
Coordinators and the other web editors on a daily basis, in order
to maintain and update the IFLA website;
- In consultation with IFLA staff and representatives, and others
as required, provide web content to make IFLA visible in web
communities and other online resources; ensure correct usage of
IFLA design and logo in web environment ;
- Moderate IFLA discussion lists; manage online internal
communication means, such as the IFLA HQ intranet and the photo
archive;
- Develop and create promotional and publicity material in
collaboration with the Professional Communication Officer;
coordinate the preparation of material for IFLA’s promotional
activities, in particular IFLA’s annual Congress;
- Assist the Communication and Services Director with communication
activities as required.
Main Tasks
- Writing and editing web texts;
- Editing images and converting content to other formats (documents
to PDF) for online use;
- Supporting – as a super user - information providers;
- Participating in web development projects;
- Moderating IFLA discussion lists;
- Maintaining IFLA intranet and photo archive;
- Developing and creating (online) promotional material;
- Communicating with external providers on content;
- Keeping track of correct usage of IFLA design and logo in the
internet environment;
- Assisting with any occurring communication activity.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills and the
ability to target style to different audiences;
- Excellent knowledge of English, preferably as first language, and
a good knowledge of another of IFLA’s seven official working
languages;
- Demonstrated ability to create accurate, relevant and informative
communication content and materials;
- Knowledge and experience in editorial work, especially for the
web;
- Extensive experience in using CMSs and software for image editing
(Photoshop);
- Good understanding of the role and functions of an international
professional member based organization;
- Commitment to participative work practices, workplace diversity
and to working effectively with a team.
