Sri Lanka
Commencing Reconstruction

Library architectural plans needed!

20 January 2005

28 private sector and individual donors and five international NGOs will undertake the first phase of the reconstruction of schools damaged by the Tsunami in Sri Lanka, on 26th January 2005 (one month after the disaster). The National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB) of Sri Lanka will advise on the reconstruction of school libraries in consultation with the School Library Development Unit of the Ministry of Education.

The NLDSB requires architectural plans for small, medium and large school library buildings. Based on the requirements of the individual school the libraries will be equipped with print, Audio-Visual and electronic resources. The building could be either single or two storied and should suit to the tropical climate of Sri Lanka. The floor area of a small library should be approximately 600 sq. ft, while it will be 1000 sq. ft. for a medium library and 1600 sq. ft. for a large library

This is an open appeal to all school library planners, architects, library professionals, Library Associations, School Library groups, school librarians and those who are interested in helping the Tsunami victims, to forward plans for consideration by the NLDSB. The plans could either be existing / already used plans or be newly developed).

Please forward the plans at your earliest to:
