Date: Fri, 22 Sep 1995 From: Sophie.Felfoldi@ifla.org Robert Wedgeworth (USA) re-elected as IFLA's PresidentRobert Wedgeworth of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) was re-elected as IFLA's President for another 2-year term. His objectives as IFLA President are threefold: to help the IFLA community keep pace with developments in the spheres of new technology and automation and change its role accordingly; to transform IFLA into an international platform for the protection of freedom of expression and access to information on a global level; and, to assist IFLA in improving the prospects of less privileged library communities, setting appropriate machinery in place so that they might help themselves:"…As we generate excitement about new programs, new technologies and fresh ideas, let us not forget the millions of people around the world trapped in a world of ignorance due to illiteracy and poverty."Since Mr Wedgeworth became IFLA's President in 1991, membership has steadily increased, culminating in a record number of 1460 members from 139 countries in September 1995. Russell Bowden (UK) and Eeva Maija Tammekann (Finland) ended their terms of service on IFLA's Executive Board. IFLA Professional BoardSally McCallum (USA) replaces Ian Johnson (UK) as Chair of IFLA's Professional Board. Professional Board members now include:
Russell Bowden made Honorary FellowRussell Bowden (UK) was made an Honorary Fellow of IFLA in recognition of his many years of dedicated and untiring service to IFLA in a variety of roles, including that of Vice-President to IFLA's Executive Board from 1991 to 1995 and Chair of IFLA's Publications Committee from 1993 to 1995.
