Call for Papers

Management & Marketing Section and Metropolitan Libraries Section

Theme: Libraries - crucial institution in a complex society: Increasing the library's appeal and value to users, and overcoming barriers to access

The programme aims to:
  • Inspire reflections on peoples attitudes to libraries and their services
  • Discuss different aspects of users' and nonusers' needs and how to meet those needs
  • Discuss customers as collaborators: inviting user participation
  • Discuss challenges for effective management and marketing strategies to optimize attractive and accessible libraries: The wow-library!
  • Discuss methods for analysis, evaluation and best practice
  • Share reflections on useful/valid success criteria for overcoming barriers and for attractive libraries.

Language:

Abstracts may be delivered in any official IFLA language. For presentation at the conference, simultaneous interpretation is desired, but yet to be confirmed.

Important dates:

Proposals for presentations, in the form of one page summaries should be sent by January 15th, 2007 to:

The proposals should include the name, contact information and institutional affiliation of the author; and the abstract.

All proposals will be evaluated by a committee representing the two sections:

Four to six papers will be selected for this three to four hours programme.

The evaluating committee will inform the applicants of the results February 15, 2007.

Final versions of the full papers must be submitted to the abovementioned address by May 10, 2007.
