Call for Papers

Government Information and Official Publications Section

Theme: Government and Science - Progress, Development and Partnerships for Libraries of the Future

The Government Information and Official Publications Section invites submissions for its open session program for the 73rd International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress 19-23 August 2007 to be held in Durban, South Africa.

In harmony with the IFLA conference theme, "Libraries for the future: Progress, Development and Partnerships", the GIOPS sub-theme is "Government and Science: Progress, Development and Partnerships for Libraries of the Future".

Government information in all its forms has an important role in the lives of all citizens, promoting economic growth and social progress. Governmental and intergovernmental knowledge resources are often freely available on the internet and can provide a solid information base to build and boost science, engineering and technological capacities. Citizens around the globe are stakeholders in these knowledge resource portals but are often unaware of their potential, reliability, coverage and limitations.

Submissions are invited to discuss specific portals and their characteristics with a view to updating and informing participants.

Four papers will be selected for presentation.

Proposals for papers must be submitted by 15 January 2007 to:
Irja Peltonen
E-mail: Irja.Peltonen@vm.fi with copies to
Jane Wu
E-mail: Jane.Wu@fao.org and
Jackie Druery
E-mail: druery@post.queensu.ca.

The proposal should include a title, a 200-400 word abstract and relevant biographical information of author(s) / presenter(s).

Successful proposals will be identified by 15 February 2007 and presenters notified.

The full paper is due by 15 April 2007.

Papers are required to meet the IFLA guidelines posted at http://archive.ifla.org/IV/ifla73/callinfo-en.htm.

Please note that all fees, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation, etc. are the responsibility of the authors of accepted papers.
