Call for Papers

National Libraries Section

Theme:

"National Libraries: Dynamic Partners for the Knowledge Society"

National libraries are evolving fast, opening up to change, making their collections available nationally and internationally to a wider population, seeking out partnerships with other institutions, including libraries, archives and museums, adopting and integrating new technologies. As the role of the national library evolves and its partnerships broaden there is a need for new approaches.

The IFLA National Libraries Section invites colleagues to express their interest in making presentations at the section's programme in Seoul on one of the following topics:
  • the role of the national library in the information economy
  • new partnerships for national libraries and their impact
  • new users, new technologies, and their impact on human resource requirements for national libraries
Please send a detailed abstract (1 page or at least 300 words) of the proposed paper (which must not have been published elsewhere) and relevant biographical information of author(s)/presenter(s) by January 15, 2006 via email to:
Ingrid Parent
Chair, National libraries Section
ingrid.parent@lac-bac.gc.ca

The abstracts will be reviewed by members of the National Libraries Section's Standing Committee and up to five papers selected.
Successful proposals will be identified by 15 February 2006.

Full papers will be due by 1 May 2006 to allow time for preparation of translations.

Please note that the expenses of attending the Seoul conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.

We look forward to receiving expressions of interest. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Chair, Ingrid Parent or the Section Secretary, Genevieve Clavel
