Call for Papers

Management of Library Associations Section

Theme:

"Advocacy in action; new roles for Library Associations"

The Management of Library Associations Section is seeking papers for our program in Seoul entitled: Advocacy in action; new roles for Library Associations

"Library associations are becoming increasingly active in advocating for libraries, for the establishment of libraries where none exist, for increased funding for libraries, and for public recognition of the role that libraries play in literacy and the information society. A series of presentations will explore some of the variety of ways in which library associations around the world have been involved in successful advocacy efforts, and will provide participants with insights in how they can strengthen advocacy activities in their own countries."

Examples of these advocacy activities might include:
  • public relations campaigns to increase awareness of the value of libraries and librarians
  • legislative campaigns to secure national legislation favorable to libraries or increased funding for libraries
  • association activities to advance the profession of librarianship within a country
  • association activities to support local funding or library development goals
  • other association-initiated advocacy efforts.

In addition, papers are solicited which provide practical "how to" advice on how best to initiate or strengthen advocacy efforts in any of the areas above.

We are particularly interested in featuring projects from every area of the world.
