Call for Papers

Library Buildings and Equipment Section

The Library Buildings and Equipment Section is holding its Open Session in Seoul 2006.

Theme:

Libraries in multi-functional complexes: facilitating the sharing and exchange of learning, knowledge and information across different types of institution through synergy and design.

In recent years libraries have often had to share premises with other types of institutions, everything from shopping malls to modern art galleries. Often the intention has been for the institutions to complement one another and to learn from one another. The session in Seoul wishes to address the advantages and disadvantages of planning and placing libraries in multi-functional settings or complexes by looking at:
  • what this means for the process as a whole and how may it affect the relationship between architect and librarian;
  • how the design process can ensure positive synergy between different types of institution;
  • how libraries can be designed in multi-functional complexes in such a way as to enhance their role as meeting places.
It should be stressed that all papers presented at the session in Seoul should address aspects of library buildings and design and not library services or functionality.

An abstract of approximately 400 words plus information on the author should be submitted by 15th January 2006.

The abstracts will be reviewed and identified by 31st January and authors will be notified by the end of February 2006.

Full papers must be submitted no later than 30th April 2006. Papers should be between 10 and 20 pages, including illustrations. There will be a maximum of twenty minutes for presentations of papers at the open session in Seoul.

Abstracts should be sent to:

Please note that the expenses of attending the Seoul conference will be the responsibility of the authors/presenters of accepted papers.
