Call for Papers: E-learning discussion group

Theme: "Making e-learning work"

A successful meeting of the discussion session on e-learning took place during the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Buenos Aires, and over 100 people attended the session.

LIS educators and practitioners are now invited to submit proposals for presentations that provide perspectives on how e-learning is contributing to continuing professional education and development for LIS, and its implications for the operation of library services.

Proposals may focus on, but are not limited to:
  • Financial aspects of e-learning
  • Copyright issues in e-learning
  • The 5C's - Connectivity, Content, Capability, Conservation, Collaboration

The Congress takes place in Oslo, Norway, August 14-18, 2005. The overall conference theme is "Libraries - a voyage of discovery"

No financial support can be provided, but a special invitation can be issued to authors of accepted papers.

Papers must be submitted in one of the official IFLA languages (English, French, German, Russian, Spanish).

Important dates:
Please e-mail abstracts (300-500 words, in English or French, preferably in Word or RTF format) by 15 February 2005 to the Coordinator of the Discussion Group, Ian Johnson, accompanied by the following information:
  1. Abstract
  2. Names of presenter(s)
  3. Position or title of presenter(s)
  4. Employer or affiliated institution
  5. Mailing address
  6. Telephone/fax numbers
  7. E-mail address
  8. Short biographical statement and resume

Notifications of the abstract's acceptance will be issued by 15 March 2005.

The deadline for submission of full papers (camera ready copy): is 10 May 2005.

Papers should not exceed 10-12 pages, including abstracts and references.

Accepted speakers will be permitted to speak for no more than 20 minutes to introduce the main themes in their paper, and will be expected to stimulate discussion about it.
