Time and Place

The 64th IFLA Council and General Conference 1998, will take place at the Amsterdam RAI - http://www.rai.nl/ from August 16 to 21, 1998.

Conference Venue

The Amsterdam RAI - http://www.rai.nl/ is located in the southern part of Amsterdam and can be easily reached by tram from the inner city. Depending on where you are staying, the ride will usually take you about 15 minutes. In addition to the restaurants within the Congress Centre, shops and more restaurants are available within walking distance from the RAI. During the lunch breaks you can take a walk in the beautiful Beatrix Park, which is located right next to the Congress Centre. You may opt to select a hotel within walking distance from the Congress Centre or a hotel located in the inner city.

Call for contributed papers

The deadline for submission of contributed papers is February 1, 1998. For further information please contact IFLA Headquarters.

Simultaneous Interpretation

Simultaneous interpretation services will be available in five languages: English, French, German, Russian and Spanish. This service is available for the opening and closing sessions, the plenary lecture on the general theme, the open forums, guest lectures, contributed paper sessions and a number of Divisional and Sectional sessions during the week. Please look for the SI mark in the Final Programme.

Availability of Papers

During the conference more than 150 papers and reports will be presented. Papers reaching IFLA Headquarters/the Organising Committee before May 15, 1998 will be printed in their original language versions in 9 booklets, one for each Division, and one Booklet 0, which will contain the Presidential address, contributed papers etc.

Copies of papers will be available from the Paper Handling Centre on request. The Final Programme will provide more detailed information on the location of the centre and the availability of papers.

IFLA Express 1998

IFLA Express is a daily newsletter which will be published a number of times during the conference by The Netherlands Organising Committee in collaboration with the IFLA Headquarters Secretariat to give delegates information of general interest, and information from IFLA Headquarters, Divisions and Sections, and from the national organisers. Two pre-conference issues of IFLA Express will appear in January and May/June 1998 with the latest news on programme activities. It will be mailed to all IFLA members and officers, persons attending the previous IFLA conferences and other interested parties.
