   
Section on Library Buildings and Equipment
Medium Term Programme 1998-2001
Part 1: Scope
The Section considers all matters concerning the design and construction for all type of libraries in all parts of the world, and their furnishing and equipment. The Section aims to collect and disseminate knowledge about buildings and equipment in order to increase this knowledge among librarians. It also aims to establish better contacts between librarians and architects by creating the conditions under which it will be possible for each of them to understand the otherīs language, by promoting an exchange of experiences between librarians and architects.
Part 2: Goals, 1998-2001
- Collect and present information on new library buildings and renovations.
- Organize seminars on library buildings in various countries to which developing countries will be encouraged to send representatives.
- Organize study tours on library buildings in various countries to which developing countries will be encouraged to send representatives.
- Develop guidelines for librarians in the planning and preparation of building program documents for architects and for participating in project development.
Annex: Action Plan, 1998-1999
Goal 1.
1.1 Publish the Proceedings of the Seminar on Intelligent library buildings (The Hague, Netherlands, August 24-29, 1997). Publication expected: Spring 1998.
1.2 Collect information on new important library buildings (additions, renovations included) to be published through IFLANET.
1.3 Publish two issues of the Sectionīs Newsletter each year and include there information about new library buildings and publications in the field of the section.
Goal 2.
2.1 Organize a Pre-Conference on invitation and in cooperation with Shanghai Public Library (1999 Conference in Bangkok)
Goal 3.
3.1 Organize a Post-Conference Study Tour to visit libraries in the Netherlands and either in Belgium or in the North of Germany. (1998 Conference in Amsterdam)
Goal 4.
4.1 Publish a publication in the form of a booklet or a leaflet about architectural competitions using the papers given in the Beijing workshop.
4.2 Publish a leaflet about Directional signs.
