Christine Deschamps Returned Unopposed

Christine Deschamps, whose first term of four years as President of IFLA comes to an end during the IFLA Conference in Boston in August, has been returned unopposed for a second and final term of two years. She will, therefore serve as President of IFLA until August 2003. By the deadline of 5th February 2001, Christine had received 96 nominations from many parts of the world. No one else received the necessary minimum of 10 nominations.
On learning of her successful nomination, Christine said: "I am delighted to receive such support from so many members around the world. I look forward to building upon the achievements of the last four years to ensure that IFLA takes a leading role in the global information age."
Christine will be last IFLA President to serve under the provisions of the old Statutes. In future, members will elect a President-elect, who will serve for two years in that capacity, followed by two years as President for a single term.
Candidates for the post of President-elect and for places on the Governing Board will be announced shortly, as soon as the nominated candidates have confirmed their willingness to stand for election.
