First Announcement

Welcome to IFLA 2004 in Buenos Aires! For the first time in South America!

Invitation

The Argentine National Organizing Committee and the Asociación de Bibliotecarios Graduados de la República Argentina take great pleasure in inviting you to the 70TH IFLA General Conference which will take place in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 20-27 August, 2004.

Theme:
"Libraries: Tools for Education and Development"

Information and knowledge are extremely important for education and development. They are also essential requirements to improve the quality of life of all inhabitants in places where the population has not reached a high degree of economic and social development. In Latin America this demand for information requires Libraries so that they can work together on the process of education, cooperating as pillars of the educational system and opening the ways to knowledge, culture and social development.

Conference Venue

The Hilton Convention Centre is conveniently situated in the heart of the City of Buenos Aires, in a recently refurbished neighbourhood, one of the best places in Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires:
a city to go around

Buenos Aires is a big city with eleven million people. With its own personality and devotion to culture and art, Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan city, traditional, historic and modern. Buenos Aires offers visitors a wide variety of attractions: monuments, churches, museums, art galleries, theatres, tango shows, squares, parks and gardens with very old trees, traditional neighbourhoods, important shopping centers, classic and modern hotels, typical restaurants and international cuisine.

Apart from it´s own attractions, Buenos Aires is also the door to a fascinating range of tourist attractions troughout Argentina.

Argentina:
all the landscapes you can imagine

Due to its vast territory and its geographical location, Argentina offers visitors numerous landscapes: from the high snow-covered peaks of the Andes to the beaches on the Atlantic, chosen as a natural paradise by whales, penguins and numerous species. Just contemplating the glorious noise of the Iguazú Waterfalls or the calm of the Pampas, whatever the choice, the beauty of the landscape and the cordiality of the hosts will ensure an unforgettable stay.
