The Amsterdam RAI - http://www.rai.nl/ is located in the southern part of Amsterdam, easily reached by tram from the central city. Depending on where you are staying, the ride will usually take no more than 15 minutes. In addition to the restaurants within the RAI Congress Centre, more restaurants are available within walking distance from the Amsterdam RAI.

Getting to the RAI Congress & Exhibition Centre

From Schiphol Airport the train to the Amsterdam RAI railway station takes about 10 minutes. The walk from the RAI railway station to the RAI Congress Centre is approximately 7 minutes. From the Amsterdam Central Station you may take the Amstelveen express tram 51 (travel time: 12 minutes; exit at Amsterdam RAI Station), tram 25 or tram 4 (travel time: 30 minutes; exit at Amsterdam RAI Europaplein) to the Amsterdam RAI Congress. If you are travelling by car you may take the A-10 highway to Amsterdam, exit RAI.

Public Transportation

The public transportation system in the Netherlands is very well organised. Amsterdam is not only compact but it also possesses an excellent network of buses, trams an subways. An intricate network of national and international road and rail connections will also facilitate your journey. Tickets (strippenkaart) can be bought at all train stations and in buses and trams. They can also be obtained in most tobacco shops.

A free transportation ticket will be provided to all participants and accompanying persons upon arrival. This ticket can be used on all public transport in the City of Amsterdam.

Taxis

Taxis are available at the special taxi ranks throughout the city. Taxis can also be ordered by the doorman in front of the RAI Congress Centre, at all hotels and in front of most railway stations. A taxi ride from Schiphol Airport to central Amsterdam will cost you approximately NLG 50.- (price level 1997).
