IFLA administers a number of Grants and Scholarships to enable aspiring library and information professionals from all over the world to enhance their training and to provide funding for new and exciting projects in the field of librarianship. Essay Contest - Free Conference Registration 2009

The Academic and Research Libraries is offering THREE (3) free Registrations/Bursaries equivalent in the amount of € 400 each to an information professional from Africa, Latin America and the Asia/Pacific region to cover the registration/bursary expenses at the World Library and Information Congress: 75th IFLA General Conference and Assembly, to be held in Milan, Italy from August 23-27, 2009. The conference theme is "Libraries create futures: building on cultural heritage".


Guust van Wesemael Literacy Prize

This Prize was established in 1991 by IFLA's Executive board to commemorate the late Guust van Wesemael who was Coordinator of IFLA's Professional Activities from 1979 to 1990 and Deputy Secretary General of IFLA from 1979 to 1991. Funded by donations, the Guust van Wesemael Literacy Prize will be awarded biennially until the funds are exhausted. The objective of the Prize is to sponsor a public or school library in a developing country to purchase books for activities in the field of literacy promotion.

IFLA International Marketing Award

The IFLA Section on Management and Marketing in collaboration with Emerald has the pleasure to announce the IFLA International Marketing Award for 2009.


Jay Jordan IFLA/OCLC Early Career Development Fellowship

Jointly sponsored by IFLA and OCLC Online Computer Library Center.
This programme provides early career development and continuing education for library and information science professionals from countries with developing economies.

Margreet Wijnstroom Fund

The Margreet Wijnstroom Fund for Regional Library Development is financed by contributions in honour of Margreet Wijnstroom, IFLA Secretary General from 1971 to 1987 and Honorary Member of IFLA since 1987. Its objective is to support IFLA's Regional Offices, to involve librarians from developing world in the work of IFLA's professional groups, and to support projects in the developing world.

Dr Shawky Salem Conference Grant (SSCG)

Funded by Dr Shawky Salem of Egypt and jointly administered by IFLA, the purpose of this permanent annual grant is to enable one expert in library and information sciences from the Arab Countries (AC) to attend the IFLA Annual Conference.
